Junshan Island Scenic Area is a small island in Dongting Lake, 800 miles away from Yueyang Tower. There is a ferry connecting the two places at the dock next to Yueyang Tower. Tourists can also take buses from the city center to the Junshan Island scenic area. After entering the scenic area, you can either walk around according to the sightseeing map or take the sightseeing bus to tour the entire island.
The Junshan Island scenic area is shaded by green trees and covered in lush greenery, with large areas of lakeside wetlands. There are also many famous historical sites on the island, most of which are located in the east of the island (the entrance of the scenic area is also in the east of the island), and are also many places visited by tourists. There are fewer scenic spots in the west of the island, and there are not many tourists visiting. The famous scenic spots and historical sites on the island are mostly related to ancient myths and legends. Walking leisurely in the green shade and listening to stories is also a pleasant thing to do.
The attractions that attract tourists on the island are Xiangfei Temple and Erfei Tomb, both of which are not far from the entrance of the scenic area. Both attractions are related to the two concubines of Emperor Shun in ancient times, E Huang and N ü Ying. The Xiangfei Temple was built to commemorate two concubines, and it is said to have been recorded in the "Records of the Grand Historian". Nowadays, the temple is also bustling with incense. The Second Concubine's Tomb is a legendary burial site for two concubines. According to legend, Emperor Shun had been out for a long time and had not returned. The two concubines went out to search for him and when they arrived at Junshan, they heard that Emperor Shun had already passed away and died of excessive grief. Later generations were moved by their true feelings and built temples to commemorate them.
There is also a beautiful legend behind the Liuyi Well west of the tomb of the Second Concubine. Legend has it that scholar Liu Yi met the daughter of the Dongting Dragon King who was subjected to domestic violence. He was entrusted to deliver a letter from Liu Yi's underground sea in the Junshan Island scenic area to the Dragon King. Later, the Dragon Girl was saved and the two became husband and wife.
There are restaurants and tea rooms on the island. When you are tired from strolling, you can enjoy a cup of locally produced Junshan Maojian in the tea room and spend some leisure time.
