Kumutage Desert is located on the eastern edge of the Turpan region in Xinjiang, 90 kilometers away from the city center of Turpan. Kumutage is a mobile desert with numerous sand dunes, sand mountains, and other spectacular scenery. In Uyghur language, "Kumutage" also means "sand mountain".
For ordinary tourists, visiting the Kumutage Desert refers to the Shashan Park on the south side of Shanshan County in Turpan, which is the closest to the desert and more convenient to play in. There are numerous entertainment activities such as sand skating and desert off-road vehicles in the park.
In addition, there are two hiking routes within the Kumtag Desert. One route is from Desert Park to Langan Township, which is about 10 kilometers away and can be completed in one day. The other route is from the desert park to the village of Dikaner on the southwest side of the desert, covering a total distance of more than 40 kilometers, also known as the north-south crossing, which takes about 3 days to complete.
